The mounted photograph is one of a series used for display purposes. The water tower at Sunbury Station was built in 1861 by J. Bett. it is of state significance and is an indicator of the importance of the railway to Sunbury's expansion in the Nineteenth Century. Steam trains needed sufficient steam power to climb the steep gradients over the Great Dividing Range and the water tower at Sunbury was used to replenish the trains' water supply for the remainder of the journey.A black and white photograph of the water tower at Sunbury Railway Station. The Cash Book was used by the Shire of Bulla Electric Light Department to record by hand writing costs associated with supplying electricity, employee wages and users of electricity between October 1909 and November 1926. The first two generators supplied the township of Sunbury and together with the erection of a Power House were officially opened in 1910. The building was the residence of the engineer who was responsible of managing the early electric supply that was installed in Sunbury in 1909. The town's power supply put an end to gas lighting that had been used and homes had the benefit of having electricity connected to their homes. In 1926 the State Electricity Commission took over supplying electrical power to Sunbury. The cottage is now a private home and the power house building has been demolished. The building with the tall chimney was the Boiler House at the former Sunbury Asylum. It was built in 1920 and using steam power, it supplied hot water and heating throughout the complex, using coal and briquettes. When the Asylum closed down in 1992, the Boiler House then became an arts centre for the local community.The tall chimney can be seen from many vantage points in Sunbury and is of local heritage significance because of its structure and design.A coloured photograph of an industrial building with a very tall chimney. This is a photograph of the former power house and the engineer's cottage which was on the corner of Jackson and Shields Street. In 1910, the electric power generating station started operating, supplying the town with its own electricity supply until 1926 when the State Electricity Commission took over the distribution of the district's power supply.
