A copy of the Duties and rules of Conduct were enclosed but are not found here. 00354.2 Letter dated 10 April 1943 from Mr B Frank accepting the positions. Holmbush was the first hostel for children that Legacy started and operated from April 1943. It was later renamed Blamey House after another hostel called Blamey House was closed. Melbourne Legacy ran three residences: Blamey House (purchased 1947) , Stanhope (purchased 1945) and Harelands (purchased 1950), to take care of children whose fathers were servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself. Harelands accommodated boys and girls under the age of 14, Blamey House looked after boys over 14, and Stanhope looked after girls over 14. A Vale article that was published in the Bulletin in 1977 on the death of Mr Robert Alfred (Bob) Wight who had been the supervisor of Blamey House for 13 years. Bob Wight with his wife Jane Wight as Assistant Superintendent, looked after the boys in Blamey House at 1267 Burke Road from June 1964. The article includes some details of their lives. The boys came across from Stony Point and planted trees and were plagued by mosquitoes. The poem is quite humorous describing their venture to Cowes. They decided that Cowes derived its name - "The mosquitoes were cows down at Cowes." On the back of the folder is a note from E Murnane, one of the Supervisors, to "Dear John". The poem is most likely written by E Murnane too as it has the initials (E.M.) at the end. The Souvenir Folder was donated by Neil Lacco.A souvenir folder with two photographs included of the First School Boys' Camp at Cowes run by the Education Department.
