Three north-bound tramcars are held up by spread of stationary traffic across trams tracks. Date 15-10-54, time 0910." Nearest tram is a L Class No 101, "City via William St" route 4B. behind is a W2 Class tram on route 4B plus another tram behind it again. Leyland TS8c No 143 bound for "Collingwood" is also delayed in Yarra Bank Road. 2 - "Queens Bridge from near centre looking south (from tray of Tramway's truck). North-bound tramcar held up by slow-moving traffic. Dated 15-10-54, time 0858 hours." SW6 class No. 902 with dash canopy lighting has an "Essendon Depot" ancillary board on the front of the tram. Heading south on Queensbridge Street is a Leyland drop-enter bus, with a silver roof, bound for Port Melbourne. Leyland TS8c No 143 bound for "Collingwood" remains delayed in Yarra Bank Road unable to enter Queens Bridge. Note the "Guest's Biscuit" advertising sign on the side of the Port Melbourne railway line bridge. Traffic congestion delays trams in Collins Street - Set of 2 ...Photograph Traffic congestion delays trams in Collins Street - Set of 2 Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board MMTB or VicRail or Ministry of Transport ...Both photographs were taken at the same location in Collins Street just west of Swanston Street in the middle of a warm, sunny day. Both depict several motor vehicles queuing on the tram tracks inside a the safety zone while several passengers await a tram which is stuck behind these vehicles. A second queue of vehicles is between the safety zone and the kerb. The approaching W2 class trams both shows destinations Kew Depot route 47. In both photographs, decorations hang from a span wire close to the trams. One photograph shows two safety zone conductors in conversation amid several passengers, one dressed in a dust coat. One possible explanation is that traffic has been halted by the closure of Swanston Street, perhaps the annual Moomba procession in March, and will soon be cleared. In the background is part of the Fish market building, the bridge itself carrying very heavy traffic. In the foreground is coming out of Siddeley Street, is an "Atlantic" petrol tanker and trucks for L & G Wilson carriers, and G H 'Don' Watson cattle truck. Note the truck carrying paper reels has come out of the Mobil Service Station and is turning south onto the bridge. Traffic is also struggling to exit Queens Wharf Road onto the bridge as well. The W2 class, is running to East Preston on Route 9 service.
