The Melbourne cable tramway system operated between 1885 and 1940.Former Melbourne cable tram bell used for fortnightly and annual meetings of Ringwood Apex Club, mounted on timber base with metal shields showing presidents for each year from 1966 to 2003. Ringwood Apex Club closed in 2003-04.This dinner gong, formerly a Melbourne cable tram bell, was donated by inaugural secretary Wal Hodgson 21.10.67. Original features photos of Ballarat City and Town, its buildings, parks and the various industries and organisations that were in Ballarat at the time of publication, including ESCo. Many photos features ESCo trams. Photos sepia toned. Has some red colour block printing on the front cover and rear, for Star Oil Engines. On inside back cover is a map with the places of interest and tram route map, marked in red. Pages are un-numbered. Original published by Ballarat East Town Council and Ballaarat City Council. On cover has number stamped in black in, "No. 87" (assume facsimile copy No.). Photos with publication show tram No. 21, built 1913 and ESCo photo page shows Mr. Pringle as Manager. The 200 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. Tickets in use as child return tickets from 24/12/1975 to 1/11/75 and as child single tickets in 1/11/75 to 30/6/78. See BTM Fare Chart. Has a strong association with the story of the BTPS in its first four years, developing the Museum, acquiring additional trams and a brief history of the SEC trams in Ballarat.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, dated 10/1978, titled "Ballarat's tourist tramway carries 100,000th passenger". Printed in a "Courier Tourist" Section, gives details of the 100,000th passenger, BTPS history, that of the trams in Ballarat, closure. On the rear of the sheet continues story and gives details of the then BTPS fleet (14, 26, 27 & 28, 48 and 40). Notes that the BTPS had by then acquired No. 39, W3 661, W4 671, 33 and 11, 121, 35 and X1 463. Indicated or provided a location to tram drivers and passengers of a tram stop that trams had to be hailed or be requested to stop or to alight. Has the outline of a Z class tram. Introduced after Z class trams started to be used. A small sign providing details of the route number could be placed on the bottom edge. The 1977-78 MMTB Annual report has a photo of one of these then-new signs.Demonstrates the form of tram stop that the MMTB used in Melbourne that trams had to be signaled to stop at.
