In the early 1900s rough roads and severe weather conditions forced traders to be more flexible in trading with weights and measures. The top is for holding the scale upright and the bottom for a hook to dangle the item to be weighed from the bottom. This electric jug was donated by Joseph "Joe" Wlodarczyk, from his personal collection. The J9 electric jug is a vintage Australian ceramic appliance, most commonly associated with HECLA, a well-known manufacturer of domestic electrical goods. Sunshine Pottery on contract made many of these HECLA jugs. Glazed ceramic body, typically in pale cream with cream swivel lid. The vintage Hecla toaster is an iconic piece of Australian kitchen manufacturing history. Produced by Hecla Electrics Pty Ltd—founded in Melbourne in the early 1900s—these toasters were renowned for their durable, utilitarian design. The bread is placed inside the door, then closed to toast. Because the bread required a manual flip, they are widely remembered for demanding constant supervision to prevent burning. Unlike modern disposable appliances, vintage Heclas were engineered to last. They utilized easily replaceable Nichrome wire elements on mica sheets, allowing users to buy parts from local stores and fix them at home.A vintage Hecla chrome plated steel two slice electric toaster on a footed base. It has two side-loading flip-down doors on either side with two small round black bakelite handles. There is a lined pattern on each door. The top is flat with no toast rack. It has a black and tan patterned cotton thread covered removable electrical cord which has three prongs on a black plug. The Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme (KHES) produced electricity for the people living in the Kiewa Valley and beyond to many parts of Victoria. The people and their families working on the scheme were encouraged by their employer the State Electricity Commission of Victoria to purchase and use electrical appliances. The mix master was popular for mixing food for baking and for making juice drinks. Ron White owned this 1950s vintage Sunbeam model 9 mixer with stand, milk glass bowls and complete juicer. Ron was a senior member of staff during the construction and operation of the KHES.This mix master was owned by Ron White who was appointed Area Operations Engineer Kiewa in June 1956. Ron was later appointed General Superintendent and then in 1974 to principal Hydro Engineer of the recently titled Hydro Division.White electrical food mixer with six parts. 1. Kerosene lamps were used as a main source of lighting throughout Australia prior to the supply of domestic electrical services. This was obviously later in many rural areas. This lamp was used in the home of Mrs. Gina Elizabeth Harris of Bethanga in Northeast Victoria where electricity was connected on 23 March 1959.This lamp is representative of the lamps used throughout Australia prior to the introduction of domestic electricity supplies. This vintage kerosene lamp is model No. 21 which was manufactured by Aladdin Industries in Greenford, Middlesex, England in the 1950s. Base stems were mostly made from wood, turned into several different patterns. More expensive table lamp stems were of metal. Bases were mostly steel filled with sand as a weight. When Bakelite became available it was used extensively in three different colours, although collectors say that white bases were used primarily in hospitals and churches and are more rare. During the Great Depression era anyone who could offer you a cuppa from a beautiful Electric Kookaburra Jug was considered to be doing well. Made by Nilsen Porcelain Australia in the 193Os, these kettles were unique for their charming art deco bird shape. Nilsen Electric Kookaburra Jugs are now regarded as a classic Australian icon prized by collectors. Oliver John Nilsen was born in Collingwood, Victoria in 1894. In 1916 he began his own electrical business, Oliver J. Nilsen & Co. (later Oliver J. Nilsen (Australia) Ltd). Nilsen's manufactured goods included such diverse products as transformers, bearings, battery chargers, bells, buzzers and gongs, porcelain ware, fuses, insulators and neon signs. Nilsen Porcelain Australia was a smaller company within the Nilsen group. Before electricity, candles were a primary source of light. They were used to light dinner tables, grand dining halls, and other formal settings. Tapers were essentially wax-coated wicks used to light gas or kerosene appliances or candles. Price's developed its 'Ship Brand' trademark in the 1870s, featuring the image of a clipper ship under sail. Price's candle tapers were made between 1880 and 1910. Since 1932 Nutbrown has been producing crafted kitchen products which were a staple in British homes. Nutbrown continues to be in production today.A vintage manual metal and plastic Chipper and French Fry Cutter with two blue turned wooden handles each side which are attached to folding crossed metal supports joined to a square frame. The Sunshine Centenary Fire Truck refers to the special appliance displayed during Sunshine’s 1990 Centenary celebrations, when the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) showcased a modern Sunshine fire appliance as part of the suburb’s 100‑year anniversary events. It is associated with the opening of the new Sunshine Fire Station at McIntyre Road in the same year (1990), which coincided with Sunshine’s centenary.
