This watering can would have been used some decades ago to water pot plants and small plants in the garden requiring individual watering. Today watering cans are still used but mostly they are made of plastic although some cans are made in other materials for decorative reasons. Enamel is a hardy material but it chips when the object is knocked or dropped. This watering can has no known local provenance but is retained as an example of a common household item from early in the 20th century. This is an oval-shaped enamel watering can. It has two handles, a spout and a hinged lid. The can is very rusted. ‘Made in England’vintage household items, vintage watering can, enamel watering can, warrnambool

Blind Creek was located between the Abbotsford Convent and what is now the Collins Bridge in Studley Park. In an 1858 map of East Collingwood by Clement Hodgkinson, in the State Library of Victoria, one can see how the creek was originally a significant landmark in Collingwood; remaining vacant land until a barrel drain enclosed it. The area was later filled in, surveyed and developed. The position where Blind Creek entered the Yarra was in the immediate vicinity of Hodgson’s Punt, which had linked Kew to the other side of the Yarra from 1839. The Punt was purchased by the Colonial Government in 1852 and was in use until the opening of the Studley Park Road (Johnston Street) Bridge in 1858 made its continued use redundantThe point of view selected by the artist for the watercolour is from the banks of Blind Creek in East Collingwood, looking across the Yarra to the Kew side of the river.Inscribed verso 'Creek and Old Watering stage, on the Yarra East Collingwood 1854 / Trees, stage, &c have long since disappeared / [Artist Signature] / FT 110 / Creek itself now being filled in 1903.gb richardson, blind creek - abbotsford, yarra river - abbotsford (vic) - kew (vic), colonial artists, australian art - 19th century, george bouchier richardson

This water wheel was located on the Steavenson River in Marysville. Barton's Store was established by Thomas John Barton in 1864. Thomas John Barton was born in 1836 in Gloucestershire and after his father died in 1850 arrived in Melbourne in 1852 along with his mother, adult sisters, younger brothers, his uncle, his uncle's wife Suzanna and their family. Thomas tried gold mining at Woods Point but found it too difficult. He then partnered with Ewen Hugh Cameron to provide the miners with meat. In 1864 they purchased a plot of land in Marysville and set up a butchers/abattoirs and from there began their business of taking supplies to the miners at the nearby Woods Point and Jamieson goldfields. In 1865 the business was firmly established and Thomas married Selina Croker at Heidelberg and brought her back to Marysville. Their first home was 'The Chestnuts', which included the store, and was situated on the town side next to the Steavenson River. Sadly, in 1876 Selina died of complications after giving birth to their sixth child. Thomas was in need of a nanny to care for his six children, including the newborn baby, and so he employed Emily Ada Sparke, who is the eldest daughter of the local school teacher. Thomas and Emily subsequently marry in 1878 and they go on to have a further 10 children over the next several years. Thomas assisted in the establishment of the first school in Marysville in 1870 and remained a very active member of the community including as a Councillor for the Shire of Healesville, Shire President and he was also appointed as a Justice of the Peace. Thomas died in Carlton in 1911. After their father's death, his sons Fred and Frank took over the family business, which was then known as Barton Bros Store which continued to operate until sometime in the 1970's.WATER WHEEL./ MARYSVILLE '53marysville, victoria, barton's store, thomas john barton, ewen hugh cameron, woods point, jamieson, gold mining, goldfields, selina croker, the chestnuts, emily ada sparke, shire of healesville, fred barton, frank barton, barton bros store, francis adam barton, frederick john barton, water wheel, steavenson river, photograph

The water pump pressure gauges were used by the Wodonga Waterworks Trust and Sewerage Authority, which were established in 1897, and had the responsibility for providing Wodonga's drinking water and managing the wastewater. In 1923 a Wodonga Waterworks Trust referendum to provide funding for new infrastructure to supply more water of better quality to Wodonga was passed. This included building the Wodonga Water Tower and it was completed in 1924. It supplied water to Wodonga until 1959, when it was drained and decommissioned after the No 1 Basin on Huon Hill was completed in 1958. In 1983 the Wodonga Waterworks Trust and the Wodonga Sewerage Authority became part of the Wodonga Council. By 1989 a filtration plant at Huon Hill was completed, which provided filtered water of improved quality to Wodonga, in accordance with the World Health Organisation’s guidelines. In 1994 the Kiewa Murray Region Water Authority took over the Wodonga Council’s water and wastewater operations, and then in 1999 the Kiewa Murray Region Water Authority combined with the Ovens Region Water Authority and became the North East Region Water Authority or NERWA. NERWA then became known as North East Water. The water pump pressure gauges have local significance due to their use by the Wodonga Waterworks Trust and Sewerage Authority, and donation from the North East Region Water Authority. They also have wider historical significance as examples of the equipment used in the management of water in Victoria and Australia.Five metal and glass water pump pressure gauges, including one with a U-shaped pipe and lever attached. The two glass water containers/bottles are thought to have been used in railway passenger trains in the c. 1900s. The Wodonga train line and train station opened in November 1873 when the section of the line from Wangaratta to Wodonga was completed. The expansion of Victorian Railways to the northeast of Victoria occurred after the Victorian Government took over the railways in 1867 and the trains serviced large towns such as Seymour, Wangaratta and Wodonga, as well as smaller towns along the way.The two glass water containers/bottles have historic significance as examples of the equipment used in passenger trains in Australia in the c. 1900s.Two clear glass water containers/bottles with a narrow neck and flaring body, which were used in railway passenger trains c. 1900s.
