Members of the group in the photo were Mary Coxon, Elsie Reynolds, Bess Allen, B Simonson, Hetty Allen and Irene Warren. They were in the craft group. For many years Legacy kept scrapbooks of press clippings that related to their work and publicity. The minutes of the Southport Widows' Club from 1988 to 1994. South Port was a widows' club was made up of widows from South Melbourne and Port Melbourne. At one stage it had been called Parks Legacy Club. The pages show that each meeting started with a minute silence in memory of their husbands. Also inside the front cover is The Legacy Widows' prayer that the widows would use. 'Let us be kind to one another and see in each other the best that we can find. There is so much sadness in the world and so many lives are dependant on us for brightness. Lord keep us brave. Help us to be kind. Amen. Gwen Gunn was the secretary or treasurer during some of this time and had minute book in her care. A book published about the Laurel Club of Albury Legacy. The Laurel Club was a name used by many widows clubs around Australia. The book appears to be written in last 2011 or early 2012 when it was about to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Albury Legacy, which had been formed in 1932. It was compiled by Legatee Rob Patterson of the Albury Legacy Club. Two Legacy widows from the Highett Legacy Widows Club. On the left is Mary Brooks the vice president and Jean Wolstencroft the secretary. Keesing Photographers took a series of photos on the same day of various ladies and some were committee members at different clubs. Presumably there had a been a meeting at Legacy House of members from the many clubs (including Hampton, Highett, Caufield). A newsletter from Sydney Legacy with six real life examples of the types of people Legacy help and what they have been able to achieve. It appears to have been published approximately 1990. Types of help given by Legatees included helping a widow's daughter buy her first car, providing a widow with a unit in the Legacy flats at Edgley Court, Petersham, providing allowance for text books for further study, also helping a disabled dependent swim in the Olympic Games also a Legacy holiday home for the widows to use. The Melbourne Legacy created a widows' visiting group in 1981. Called the "Home and Hospital Visiting Programme". The visiting group was formed of widows who would visit women in hospital or their homes or nursing homes. Various invitations, programmes and other mementos collected from Legacy events held during the early 1960's. These include invitations and tickets to the Annual Demonstrations of 1960 and 1961, the ANZAC eve school children's ceremony, also to the Senior Widows Club Grand concert (18 December 1961). The Senior Widows club also held a Christmas Dinner. Also a lapel tag for the Legacy Mothers Club. There are also mementos for Junior Legatees, such as tickets to attend the Christmas party at Government House and to Operation Float in 1962 and 1963. There are also tokens for ice creams and soft drinks at the events. There is a programme for the 1961 Annual Demonstration.A collection compiled to remember various events held in the early 1960s. Early examples of Melbourne Legacy Club newsletters, covering the activities of Melbourne Legacy Widows' Club. Information includes a notice from the Chairman of the Widows' Committee, dates of meetings, possible day trips and theatre outings, and cruises. The ladies were welcome to attend monthly meetings, card afternoons, indoor bowls competitions, outings and tours, plus the annual fete and Christmas concert. There was 5 editions per 1967 and 6 issues in 1968 and 1969. The Senior Widows Club coordinator was F R G Strickland and the editor was Mrs B E Shephard. There were so many widows that the meetings were held at the Melbourne Town Hall to accomodate the numbers. November's meeting was a picnic in the Botanical Gardens and January the widows met in Fitzroy Gardens. In November or December there were calls for nominations for the committee members for the following year. Committee comprised of a President, 2 Vice presidents, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer, Hon. Assistant Secretary and 14 members of the committee. The first edition in the new format was in 1960, previously there had been a quarterly magazine but the distribution was limited, they changed to a 4 page newsletter format to reach more of the widows. The newsletter was priced at 1D a copy until decimal currency was introduced and it became 2c. Various pages of interest have been added to show different news items.
