The photograph was taken when an exhibition was mounted in the former George Evans Museum in Sunbury. The Sunbury & District Heritage Association researched the history of the Sunbury vineyards and mounted the display which ran from August 1996 to January 1997. The bottle was donated to the Council by Hedley Elliott for an exhibition in the Art Gallery (George Evans Museum). Note that Goonawarra is misspelt on the label.Green glass bottle used for 1975 claret and bottled for the first Sunbury Fair. The label is printed in brown and cream and features a sketch of the Goonawarra Winery and surrounding area. There is a brief statement on the back about the winery and the background to production of the wine. On the back is a hand-written label, stuck on with clear tape giving an account of the origin of the bottle of wine, its donor and storage instructions. 'Craiglee' Winery was established by James Stewart Johnstone in 1865 and the property continued to function as a winery until the late 1920s. The vines were uprooted and the property was used for wool and fat lamb production. George Evans built Emu Bottom and William Clarke was the first owner of Rupertswood. These falls are known as Mill Falls and are situated on the Jackson Creek downstream from the Macedon Road bridge in Sunbury and Craiglie Winery. Photo of Harry Tinson who was winemaker at Baileys in Glenrowan from 1968 until 1982. An ageing Alan Bailey (greatgrandson of founder Richard Bailey) sold the winery to Davis Consolidated Industries (mainly a gelatine producer). At the time Harry Tinson, with a Master’s degree in physical engineering, was in the corporate planning department of Davis. The board had decided it wished to diversify into wine production and Tinson was charged with the responsibility of finding a suitable target. He came up with Baileys, and was instructed to negotiate the purchase of a 50 per cent share in the business. Bailey said “all or nothing” ! One of a group of photographs salvaged from a fire, which took place in late 2007 or early 2008, at the cellars building that is now the home of the Rutherglen Estate tasting rooms and the Tuileries restaurant and accommodation. The building started as the cellars of D.G.
