This type of Chest of drawers was a common and practical piece of furniture 20thC . The 8 eight various sized drawers were suitable for the secure storage of small and large items of clothing, haberdashery, linen, Bouquets of lavender, bay leaves, camphor etc prevented damage by moths, silverfish and the strong wood deterred mice .This item is one of many donated by Ms Carole Green whose family were early settlers in Moorabbin Shire.A french-polished mahogany wood chest of drawers often mistakenly known as a 'tallboy.' A timber plane , or jack plane (or fore plane) is a carpenters or cabinet makers tool that is used for dressing timber down to the correct size in preparation for truing and/or edge jointing.A significant tool from the mid to late 19th century that is still in use today. It gives context of how furniture and other finishes were created on timber by the use of cutting edged hand tools. Moulding planes are used to create decorative edges on timber for doors, tables, cabinets and elaborate cabinetry.The maker, Hathersich, was a very early plane maker from Manchester, England. Hathersich's early 19th-century hand-operated planes are rare examples of crafted woodworking tools. Gretl Frank was bought to Australia in September 1941 with her German parents who were residents in Palestine (a British Protectorate at the end of WW1). Temple society members. The current Shire hall was built 1908 to replace the original shire hall which was demolished due to crumbling plaster in the brickwork.
