Pen Richardson (nee Gilbert) was sewing this set when her headmaster came to tell the class (4th August 1914) that they were at war with Germany. She was in 3rd grade and her teacher was Leila Perry.
This item is an example of the needlework taught in primary schools in the early 20th century.
