Around 1900 the Ballarat School of Mines had an international reputation. it is thought that that this photograph was originally taken by the New South Wales Mines Department during a visit to Victoria.

This photograph was reproduced in the Ballarat School of Mines Annual Report 1900

This image is now (2012) used as Founders' Room in the Ballarat School of Mines Administration Building.
