Spills and tapers were used by early settlers in Moorabbin Shire to light fires, candles and gas lamps. .

Physical description

Late 19 century. A light-wieght black enamelled tin for holding spills and wax tapers. Spills and tapers were used to light fires and gas lamps. The tin is decorated with gold scrolls, and green and blue flowers. The paint work is damaged.
