Commercially printed Song book with blue cover featuring small portrait of composer. Contains words and music scores for 8 songs by Franz Schubert.
Pencil inscription on the front cover is yet to be linked to owner or user of the book of scores. The 'song album' is one of several musical score publications in the MTSV collection regularly used for entertainment of seafarers either in formal performances (scheduled and provided by volunteers from the 19th Century onwards) or as a resource also available for use by seafarers who wished to play the piano while staying at or visiting the Mission.
The actual advertisement for Australian Aboriginal Songs on the back page (of this Schubert song album) includes published excerpts of words and music for some 5 Indigenous songs as collected by Dr H. O. Lethbridge a physician and surgeon to the Wiradjuri people in NSW for some 30 years. (see Museum Victoria collections link and citation above for more details). It is possible that these songs may have been of interest to seafarers visiting Australia and to the Mission.
