          Stop Watch, Mid 20th Century

          Used by officials of Echuca Little Athletics Association. Mid to late 20th century. Principal user was John (Mick) Weldon of Echuca. Mick Weldon was the City of Echuca's Citizen of the Year for 1991.

          The stopwatch has historical because it was owned and used by a life member of the Echuca Little Athletics Association. The Association was of important social significance to the City of Echuca, in that it encouraged and promoted participation of young people in athletic activity.

          Stop Watch, silver with cotton neck band. Large dial records seconds. Small dial records minutes.

          Reproduction done for Port of Echuca c.1980 heritage project. Henry Hopwood who founded Echuca in 1853, made the following charges for the use of his punt across the Murray River utiliising his own tokens. Charges - one penny for 2 sheep, six pence for 1 cow or head of cattle, ninepende for 1 horse, 18 pence for 1 horseman, "footmen" were free.

          Inscription BRIDGE HOTEL 1858 on one penny shows scene of Bridge Hotel and the other has inscripition HOPWOODS PUNT ECHUCA 1857 One Penny and scene of same.

          Cup owned by Henry Hopwood, it was presented to his father by the weavers of Bolton UK.

          Hopwood was the founder of Echuca

          Inscribed silver cup, thin gold plated inner, two handles. Engraved base.

          There are two incription on the silver cup, front and back. Front: The Cup is presented to Mr Hopwood by the Weavers of Bolton as a Token of gratitiude . Nov 3rd 1812. Reverse, Henry Hopwood Echuca Victoria, Youngest Son of Mr Hopwood Bolton le Moors Lancashire, 1857
