Historical information
The White Flat Sports Reserve was officially opened on 18 March 1925 at which time Sir Alexander Peacock said that "a wonderful change had been brought about at White Flat , and those who had brought it about would have the gratification of knowing that they were providing inestimable pleasure for the children and young people." The site of the reserve had originally been abandoned mining ground and subsequently a municipal rubbish tip.
