John Cogdell of London worked at Bridgewater Gardens, Barbican London, England between 1750- 1773, and served his apprenticeship with his uncle, possibly William Cogdell another early tool maker. Little is known of J Cogdell but it is believed that his shop was taken over by Christopher Gabriel, another well known plane maker around 1773

Significance

A very significant and rare 18th century item given it’s age made between 1750 1773 made by a plane maker who’s tools are now sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of vintage tools.
