Historical information

This spur was recovered from the wreck of the LOCH ARD. It was previously part of the collection at the Warrnambool Art Gallery.

Significance

The spur is significant for its association with the Loch Ard, wrecked in 1878 off the coast of Port Campbell.
It is an example of blacksmith workmanship. It is also an example of horse riding equipment for the 19th century.

Physical description

Riding boot spur. One arm is bent and other arm has end missing, spur also missing. Recovered from the wreck of the Loch Ard.
