This simple brass see-saw balance was used to test the gold sovereign coin and its half for wear, and to detect counterfeit coins
Significance
Sovereigns and half sovereigns are no longer in use.
Physical description
A metal sovereign balance with two measuring plates and weight. Counterweighted desktop rocker tests for British gold Sovereigns and Half Sovereigns, both weight and thickness. It has the original green box with label on lid top.
