Louis James worked as a draughtsman in Adelaide. Although he had no formal art training, he started painting after World War Two quickly acquiring a wide reputation in Australia and London. Known as a printmaker he worked in England between 1949 to 1964.

This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. The Art Collection features over 1000 works and was listed as a 'Ballarat Treasure' in 2007.
