Historical information

Milk was delivered by the "milk man" direct to the homes of consumers. Delivery to homes in Orbost and district and was made initially by horse and cart and later by truck.

Significance

The dairy industry in Orbost and the surrounding area has always been a major contributor to the milk supply of Victoria.

Physical description

A clear glass half-pint milk or cream bottle. Moulded in two halves, made to take either a cork or cardboard disc pressed into top with wire grip. The bottle was meant to be recycled and the glass is therefore quite thick.
