Historical information

A fleet of transport ships was leased by the Commonwealth Government for the purpose of transporting various AIF formations to their respective overseas destinations. When not committed to military transport the ships were used for other duties. HMAT A54e Runic was one of these ships.

Significance

The HMAT Runic weighed 12,480 tons and was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd. Liverpool. The HMAT Runic was leased by the Commonwealth Government until 27 November 1917. She carried AIF Personnel to overseas destinations during WW1.
