Historical information
"This is a rough model of the woodturning lathe Kurt Beilharz built from scrap as a 17 year old in Camp 3, Tatura. The drive wheel was a hollow redgum block from the firewood supply. The shaft was a 1/2" water pipe, the bearings of the spindle were 3/4" water pipe with tooth paste tubes melted into and honed out for the spindle. They had holes for oiling. The drive belt came from my Mother's sewing machine. I used screws in the model, but in reality bolts were used, which were bought as well as the framing timber"
