James E Newland VC was born in Highton, Victoria and served in the AIF during the Boar War, WW1 and WW2.
James E Newland was awarded the VC in April 1917 'for most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty, in the face of heavy odds, on three separate occasions.' James E Newland was presented his award by His Majesty King George V.

Significance

James E Newland VC was born in Highton, Victoria and served with the AIF for over 40 years and obtained the highest honour that can be bestowed for bravery. James enlisted in the Australia Army as a Private and on discharge held the rank of Lt Col.
