Summary
A Life is the English title of Guy De Maupassant’s French novel "Une Vie" (1883), is a realist story about Jeanne de Lamare, a sheltered young woman whose hopes for love and happiness are gradually worn down by marriage, betrayal, family burdens, and disappointment. Maupassant is the author and the book is generally read as a bleak and at time depressing study of illusion versus reality in a woman’s life.
