In 1866, in an effort to maintain the main roads of the region it was decided to establish toll roads on the Belfast, Woodford Purnim and Allansford roads. Gates were erected and the leases were disposed of by auction. In 1867 the Woodford tollhouse was destroyed by fire suspected to be deliberate. The tolls were removed three years later after much opposition.

These tickets are a physical link to one of the earliest attempts to introduce a toll road in the district.

Physical Description: Seven toll road tickets five mounted on card. Light paper. Six are for the Main Belfast Road and one for the Woodford road. There are various prices ranging from sixpence to three shillings. Four are cream in colour, one each of blue, yellow and green. They are accompanied by a small newspaper cutting which relates the discovery of one such ticket and the situation of the Belfast tollhouses which were later relocated to 94 and 96 Henna Street near the Alderdice brass foundry.

This is a collection of sixteen tourist guides dating from the mid 1970's to 2013. These contain listings of businesses, accommodation, eateries and events in Warrnambool and district. They also include maps of Warrnambool and surrounds, advertising and photographs of various attractions. While mainly covering Warrnambool a small number of the guides cover the South West Region. These directories have mainly been published by the Warrnambool City Council and are a selection of the types of information provided to visitors at the Tourist information centre during this time period.

These tourist guides give snapshots of the City of Warrnambool for the years covered and will be useful for research.

This badge was issued in 1920 to commemorate the visit to Australia of Edward, Prince of Wales. It was issued to school children. The visit of the Prince of Wales was a gesture by the British Crown to recognize the sacrifices and efforts of the Australian people and defence forces during World War One. Edward, Prince of Wales, later became King of England in 1936 and abdicated that same year. During the 1920 visit to Victoria the Prince of Wales came to Terang and stayed overnight at Glenormiston, near Terang, at that time the property of Cr Black, the President of the Shire of Hampden.

This badge is of interest as a memento of a Royal visit to Victoria in 1920.

This preliminary report relates to 32½ acres of council owned land in West Warrnambool bounded on the North by McMeekin Road, on the East by Scott Street, on the South by Evans Street and on the West by the rear boundaries of properties facing Landmann and Granter Streets. In 2010, West Warrnambool was the largest of Warrnambool’s existing industrial areas, comprising approximately 109ha of industrial zoned land, the majority of which (101ha) is zoned IN1Z, with the remainder zoned INZ3. The area comprises a mixture of lot sizes supporting a diverse mix of industries. Larger parcels are occupied by the abattoirs, scrap metal industries, freight, the Council Depot and storage. Smaller lots are occupied by smaller manufacturers and wholesalers and service industries. [Ref: Warrnambool Industrial Land Use Review. Mesh Pty Ltd July 2010]

An annular eclipse occurs when the moon passes between Earth and the Sun and the moon's apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun's blocking most of the sun's light and causing the sun to look like an annulus or ring. An annular eclipse appears as a partial eclipse over a large region of the earth. In 1916, annularity was only visible in Australia.
