Summary

My Run Home was Boldrewood's first novel, written in 1874. It was first serialised that year in the Australian Town and Country Journal, before appearing in book form decades later as part of Macmillan's Colonial Library in 1897.
Beyond the serialisation and bibliographic listings, detailed plot summaries of this particular title are scarce in the available sources; unlike his later, much more famous novels, it doesn't appear to have a widely circulated synopsis. What is clear is the broader context it grew out of: Boldrewood's own experiences working on several different cattle and sheep stations in NSW from the 1840s to the 1860s, before drought forced him to move to Sydney in 1869 with his wife and young family. This novel draws on the kind of pastoral, bush-station background that runs through his fiction generally the title itself invokes "run", the contemporary term for a pastoral station.
