Summary

Kidnapped (1886) follows David Balfour, a young orphaned Scot who is swindled out of his inheritance by his uncle Ebenezer, kidnapped and shipped off to be sold into slavery in the Carolinas. After a shipwreck strands him on the west coast of Scotland, he falls in with the Jacobite outlaw Alan Breck Stewart, and the two become fugitives together through the Highlands in the aftermath of the 1745 Jacobite uprising, before eventually returning to Edinburgh so David can reclaim his birthright. It's a historical adventure novel written as a boys' novel, first published in the magazine Young Folks from May to July 1886, before appearing in book form the same year.
