Historical information
The land for this building was granted to the Benevolent Society by James Atkinson in 1850. Tenders were being called for a new "Benevolent Asylum" in 1855, the foundation stone having been laid and by 1856 the first part of the Hospital was completed.
Significance
This photo taken in 1860 shows the very first building made from local bluestone.
The hospital is thought to be the first such building in Victoria
