A number of students from local state schools were awarded a scholarship to undertake a subject at the Ballarat School of Mines.
R. Menzies from Humffray Street State School (No. 34) is Robert Menzies who became Prime Minister of Australia in 1939. Menzies topped the State scholarship examination in 1907.
