Historical information

In 1930 the Ballarat School of Mines was advised by a letter from the executors of the will of Dr James Stewart that a bequest had been made to the School of Mines of a capital sum to be invested and the interest used to pay or augment the salary of a teacher of Mineralogy. This fund, known as the Stewart's Fund passed on to Ballarat College of Advanced Education in 1976 when the School of Mines assets were divided between the TAFE and Tertiary College.
