Adzes are used for smoothing or carving wood in hand woodworking. It is similar to an axe but with the cutting edge perpendicular to the handle. It is used chiefly for shaping wood.
A square ended adze that has a thin arched blade set at right angles to the wooden handle.
The handle is not original.
