The donor is a descendant of Henry Bayles Ford, who was the light house keeper at Cape Otway for thirty years (1838-1878). Bayles' wife, Mary Ann had been governess for the Latrobe family. The original tea set was a gift to their daughter Agatha,, and the remaining cup and saucer has been passed down to her descendants.

The Golden Wattle Festival was held in Spring each year. This trophy is part of the memorabilia collection held by the society.

The now defunct Golden Wattle Festival was celebrated each Spring in Maryborough, and was an important part of the town's cultural history.

The cape forms part of the Golden Wattle festival collection of memorabilia held by the society.

Gold lame cape or cloak with collar (tied with bow) and train. Scalloped edges are decorated with diamente borders.

The trowel and mallet set was purchased by Mr Swanson, the builder of the Maryborough (Victoria) Railway Station prior to the planned ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone. Duncan Gillies. the Victorian Premier, was to lay the foundation stone, but his government was defeated in the week before the scheduled ceremony. The trowel and mallet set was never used. This set was held by the Maryborough Borough (later City) Council and lay unidentified for almost 120 years until a receipt from the jeweller was discovered. The set was donated to the Maryborough Midlands Historical Society in 2010.
