Well, duh - is the Pope a Catholic, you may say. But the very core of Mark Trevorrow's alter ego's identity - his gayness - is in question in this latest offering from the veteran cabaret star and host of Good Morning Murwillumbah. Downe's shtick hasn't really evolved much over the past two decades, and it may well be better suited to venues such as the Bairnsdale RSL, to which he refers during his performance. But it's still lapped up by the early evening Athaenaeum crowd, which was skewed substantially older than most other Comedy Festival shows. At least now he can afford a band - a three piece dubbed The Full Catastrophe instead of a Casio-powered backing he employed in his last Melbourne show - which helped punctuate his costume changes and power the kitsch '70s medleys that had the audience singing and clapping along.
