It’s 30 years since the world first met Aled Jones, but the Welsh boy chorister with the pudding bowl haircut and the voice of an angel who took Walking in the Air into the Top Five and won the hearts of the nation has long gone. He’s about to release his 30th album: The Heart Of it All – that’s one more than the Bee Gees and 10 more than both Queen and AC/DC. Now he’s closing in on Black Sabbath’s tally of 33. He is also celebrating his 30 years as a performer with an Australian tour in February 2015. Aled had his first hit record as a 15 year old when he released a cover version of Raymond Bigg’s “Walking In The Air” which has since become a Christmas favourite even allowing him a performance on Top Of The Pops. Known not just as one of the most superb boy sopranos of all time, but a natural musician and a modest, charming boy. Aled’s unique and amazing voice brought him attention from all around the world, and contact with a myriad of famous faces including Princess Diana, Bob Geldof and Richard Branson. “The one thing I’ve always had is an ability to really deliver a song and put my heart and soul into it. More than ever I want to take the listener on a journey through a song, to put across the emotion in a song,” he says. At just 16, Aled studied at the Royal Academy of Music, followed by drama at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He has played several theatre roles including Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Bob Wallace in Irving Berlin’s White Christmas in London’s West End in December 2014. He made the semi finals of the hugely successful Strictly Come Dancing (UK’s version of Dancing With The Stars). He was also a presenter on Escape To The Country and Cash in The Attic for the BBC. In 2000 he was invited by the BBC to become a presenter of the popular religious show Songs Of Praise that he is still presenting today with an audience of over eight million. He was awarded the accolade of Religious Broadcaster Of the year. In the citation, the judges described Aled’s ‘unique qualities that made him stand out head and shoulders above everyone else – inspiring, warm and intelligent’. Songs Of Praise marked the beginning of a new era for Aled with the launching of his new adult voice for the first time in public. Due to the demand, he found himself singing more and more songs on the series which led him to release ALED, his first real album with his new, mature baritone voice. Loved around the world, Aled’s international concert touring continues to grow and Australia has embraced his incredible talent with the rest of the world. He continues to be known, not just for his magnificent voice, but also for his natural warmth, humour, modesty and charm, which have earned him an army of loyal fans and respectful colleagues around the world. Last year he was appointed MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours and was also made an honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music – a fitting reward for a man who puts his all into everything he does. 30 years, 30 albums and a new tour – there is a lot to celebrate. “I am absolutely delighted to be back in Australia in February 2015. Australia is like a second home to me. The people are as warm as the climate and I am so excited at returning. I hope I get to meet some of you along the way as I share with you some old favourites and some new songs too. Roll on February 2015!" – Aled Jones Category: Music & Clubs
