- Melbourne Liedertafel MELBOURNE LIEDERTAFEL. This year's Christmas smoke night of the Melbourne Liedertafel, held on (the 21st inst., must rank as one of the most successful and enjoyable ever held by the society. The Athenaeum Hall was none too large for the members and their friends, and the programme was of exceptional merit. In the absence of the conductor, Mr. August Siede, through illness, Mr. Mansley Greer officiated. The part songs wore rendered with fine effect and in excellent style, and, as usual, were the principal features of the evening. The soloists contributing during the evening were Mr. James Wade, Mr. E. A. Ure, Mr. P. C. Nicholls, Mr. W. E. Lewis, and Mr. Robert Cranny. Mr. Alberto Zelman, iun. contributed two violin solos, which were highly appreciated, and Mr. J. H. Hopkins gave two fine recitations with good effect. Mr. H. S. Elvins acted as accompanist. During the evening a collection was taken up in aid of the Children's Hospital.
