- Bob Saget, Athenaeum Theatre IT’S always wise to be wary when beloved sitcom characters arrive in town to showcase their stand-up. Just ask the research-shy unfortunates who turned up expecting the child-like ramblings of 30 Rock’s Tracy Jordan last year and ended up enduring the strip-club stylings of Tracy Morgan. Bob Saget doesn’t try to hide his light under a bushel though, and would likely squeeze at least half a dozen double entendres out of that particular cliche. His show is called Dirty Daddy, and anyone expecting Danny Tanner from Full House will get the shock of their lives. Saget’s been peddling the bluest brand of stand-up comedy for some time and, as he would likely put it himself, he’s really got it licked. You get the sense his material has been doing the rounds since before Full House wrapped, but there’s enough riffing off the audience and off-the-cuff cleverness to keep it fresh and lively, even if fellatio fixations aren’t your flavour. His efforts to draw shocked gasps are effective, but never mean-spirited and his self-acknowledged resemblance to a dentist means the lasciviousness is rarely unpleasant, just ridiculously incongruous. This show certainly won’t change your life, but if you’re in the mood for something filthy but funny, Bob’s your Daddy. ------------ BOB SAGET LIVE: THE DIRTY DADDY TOUR Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne, May 16 Rating: ★★★½
