Historical information
George VI became King after his brother, King Edward VIII, abdicated in 1936. Threepence coins underwent significant changes during George VI's reign. From 1937, new 12-sided nickel-brass threepence coins were introduced, which were initially used alongside the silver threepence.

This coin is an example of a coin no longer in use.
Physical description
A brass coin - threepence. It is 12 sided. The reverse shows a Thrift plant (armeria) with three flowering stems. The obverse has a George V1 profile facing left.
