The pumps were also used for various duties from pumping oil fuel and feed water for boilers, to draining bilges on steam ship[s They are a single cylinder, double acting vertical pumps used by G. & J. Weir Ltd. , of Cathcart, Glasgow The large pump serial number 231703 was built in 1948 and worked at the old Victoria Brewery in East Melbourne before coming to the Museum in 1985.
