8727.2 - National Australia Bank - Heritage Collection - Specimen Banknotes - Specimens of the National Bank of Australia Limited banknotes in circulation in 1910. Nineteenth century banknote designs were inspired by ancient Greek myths, with images of classical figures symbolising agriculture and trade. Intricate line patterns and borders were also featured to discourage forgers. Although local printers produced the National's early notes, highly skilled security printers, Bradbury Wilkinson and Co. of London, producers of banknotes for many Australian and European banks were engaged by the National to design and produce most of its banknotes. - © National Australia Bank Limited.
