"MR JOHN WHYKES AT THE ODD FELLOWS’ HALL.
Mr John Whykes addressed an enthusi astic meeting of the ratepayers of the South Ward last evening, at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Albert street. Mr C. A. Welch was voted to the chair. The candidate, who was well received, explained his views on municipal matters. His remarks were received with favor, and were frequently applauded. Several questions were put and answered to the satisfaction of the meeting. A vote of cofidencc was passed, on the motion of Mr A. Reynolds, seconded by Mr Bromley. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair. To-night Mr Whykes will not address any meeting, being desirous of meeting the central committee, but tomorrow evening will address the ratepayers at half-past 8, at All Saints’ schoolroom, Drummond street.(Ballarat Star, 04 August 1887)
