- The Eltham branch of Amnesty International celebrates award In May 2017 the group received the Clare Wositzky award, Amnesty International Victoria’s highest award for outstanding and long term service to Amnesty. Group member Katrina North said the Eltham branch has organised many events in the community including a forum on the introduction of a Victorian Bill of Rights and a public meeting with their local MP Jenny Macklin on refugee issues. “In the early years group fundraising was achieved by hosting garden parties in the garden of well known painter Clifton Pugh, poetry readings, stalls at the Eltham Festival and Montsalvat Jazz Festival as well as wine bottling. “Campaigns we are working on at the moment are the Community is Everything indigenous rights campaign and refugee campaigns as well as the annual worldwide Write for Rights campaign.”
