The Right Reverend Dr Samuel Thornton (1835-1917) was the first Anglican Bishop of Ballarat. He was a Government representative on the Ballarat School of Mines Council for 22 years, being described as very progressive and effective in Ballarat School of Mines enterprises and leadership.
