Historical information

Colonel John Neale joined 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles as a trooper when the regiment was raised in 1948. He had had WWII service with Royal Australian Navy. He advanced through the ranks of the regiment reaching the position of Commanding Officer in 1970-77. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and returned as Honorary Colonel in 1988.

Significance

Representative of dress worn by an officer of Royal Australian Armoured Corps officer on formal mess occasions. Of particular significance by association with soldier who served from trooper to commanding officer of regiment.
