The Port of Melbourne was leased to private operators post 2015, State Govt remains landowner and regulatory authority. The Company of Master Mariners continues a regular association with the Mission to Seafarers regularly holding events and meetings on the premises.
Significance
The Port of Melbourne insignia on this desk lectern may well be replaced in subsequent decades.
The desk is used for presentations at many events.
Physical description
Wood cabinetry desk lectern with sloped reading surface and bearing two wooden shield mounted insignia, one above the other. Uppermost Insignia a) features a crest supported by 2 flanking seahorses and shield with victorian flag and 2 enamelled ribbons with inscription. Insignia B features circular crest with a 'coronet' of sail and galleon surmounting a ropework crest with an Anchor and chain at the centre.
