The hootchie was the field soldiers home-away-from-home while out of base; an easy to set up, lightweight shelter that could be quickly packed up.
Significance
The field soldier spent many nights under the cover of his hootchie during his tour of service and consequently, it along with other field equipment, has great significance to the veteran.
