Historical information

This is a pencil used by carpenters and builders and other tradesmen on site. It has been produced in a flattened shape to prevent it from rolling away. The pencil advertises a Warrnambool business, Pontings Timber and Hardware. This business was founded in 1923 by brothers Walter and Len Ponting. Three of Walter’s sons took over the business in the 1940s and today it is still operated by members of the Ponting family. The business is at 110 to 114 Kepler Street.

Physical description

This is a rectangular-shaped wooden pencil with a yellow coating and graphite inserted inside the wood. There is printing on both sides of the pencil. It has been sharpened at one end and part of the pencil has been used up.
