This type of bayonet was common issue for the French Army in World War 1 (1914-1918).

Significance

Part of a collection of edged weapons, some relevant to Victorian Colonial and Australian military forces, others are souvenirs brought home by returning soldiers.

French Model 1892 Berthier bayonet, 527 mm long fluted steel blade, with metal scabbard.
