Notice advertising a public meeting taking place on 1858 and regarding a Seamen's church, Hobson's Bay, Melbourne .
The Governor, Sir Henry Barkly, KCB, chaired the meeting.
Captain Charles Ferguson (died in 1868) was the harbourmaster of the Port of Melbourne, and previously the captain of the barque Rajah.
Significance
Example of poster of very early Melbourne public meeting "of persons interested in the welfare of sailors". Demonstrates beginnings of Melbourne-based organisation and support for seafarers.
