Bella Guerin matriculated from the University of Melbourne in 1878, passing in Latin, English, French, Arithmatic, Algebra, Euclif and History She enrolled into the Faculty of Arts at Melbourne University in 1881, the first year women could do so, and graduated in 1883.

From January 1887 to June 1891 Bella Guerin taught at the Ballarat School of Mines, during a period of affiliation with the University of Melbourne.
