Historical information

This book looks at Box Hill as it grew from a rural backwater to a country town amid farms and orchards, then to an outer suburb, and then to an almost inner suburb. It covers the rural depression in the 1860s, the land boom of the 1880s and the collapse in the 1890s, the bitter days of two World Wars and the Depression, and the 'dry' suburb of Box Hill.
